The first thing that comes to our mind on hearing the word gambling is something related to money. So the basic concept is accurate but going to the depth of it, it has more to do other than money. Gambling refers to the process of betting or staking something of value, which involves high risk and the hope of getting something in return. The entire idea of gambling is based on the concept of probability where we may either win or lose, where winning leads us to accumulate money but if we lose the game it causes us a serious downfall.
Some common types of gambling are Card games(poker, blackjack, etc), Casino games, sports betting/sports lottery, and video lottery terminals.
A brief insight on Casino:
The full of CASINO is ‘Cash and Saving are now ours’. It comprises a large room for meetings, dancing, etc, but it is specifically a place where it is equipped with gambling devices, tables, etc. People come to these rooms to bet their money and play different types of gambling games like poker, roulette, cards, etc.
Do you think that gambling has any effect on your health?
The answer to this query is a big ‘Yes’. Gambling paves its path from a fun time-pass game to an unhealthy obsession that can lead to serious consequences. It drives people to such an extent that they end up running up in huge debts, or even steal money to gamble. Here the impact of the loss of money is very minimal compared to the effect it has on one’s relationship with their loved ones, interfering with their daily work and finally regaining control of one’s life.
Coming to the technical side of health issues, gambling has led to main disorders:
Compulsive Gambling–
It is a type of gambling disorder, where a person has an uncontrollable urge to keep gambling even though it takes control of one’s life. Gambling is like drugs and alcohol that stimulates the brain’s behavioral system leading to addiction. If a person is suffering from this disorder he will emit symptoms like continuously chasing bets that lead to losses, depleting savings, accumulating debt, or even indulging in other illegal activities to get more money to support one’s addiction. If this trend is seen for a long period seeking professional help is a must.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder–
It is similar to a personality disorder that is characterized by excessive orderliness or a need for control in relating to others. In other words, it refers to a recurrent pattern of gambling behavior that persists despite the strong impact on the individual, his/her work, and his/her family.
In general, people addicted to gambling often experience depression, migraine, distress, intestinal disorder, and other anxiety-related problems.
Conclusion–
Gambling has a positive as well as a negative side. If one can control and play the game is a good sign but getting too much into it and betting all your savings and money in the hope of getting more profit, even after having a consistent loss is a red sign for the player to stop the process.
